About the Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center Clinical Chronobiology Group |
|
The
Clinical Chronobiology Group, located at
Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center on the Upper West Side
of Manhattan, focuses on environmental factors -- especially
inadequate light exposure -- that may affect the operation
of the internal biological clock and determine abnormal
patterns of mood, sleep, energy, concentration and work
productivity. Founded in 1984, we are the largest clinical
research center in the U.S. dedicated to the study and
treatment of winter depression (seasonal affective disorder,
or SAD). We have developed and continue to study novel
treatments as alternatives to drugs, under the support of
the National Institute of Mental Health and New York State
Office of Mental Health. Beyond SAD, we are also developing
treatments for chronic depression in which oversleeping and
overeating are associated problems, depression that occurs
during pregnancy, jet-lag disturbance and insomnia. |
